Why no?

Why no?

fir Lolly

by Jim Mainland

A’m tinkin at Voar wid be da ideal time
fir dis ‘levellin up’ I keep hearin aboot.

Lat’s imagine at dy end da rig is biggit high,
it drains weel, da grund is good.
But at my end it’s low an weet an fu a stanes.

So ta ‘level up’, I tak twartree borrowlodds
fae dy end an tip it in mine. Job done.

Bit da fellow at ownns da rig,
he says A’m gotten it aa wrang.

A’m takkin it far too literal
an indulgin in ‘da politics o envy’!

He says da ony wye ta level up
is ta raise da sam rig fir ivvrybody.

I says, da ony wye you could dö dat
is ta jack da whole rig up
an pit it on stilts or somethin
an dat’s impossible, min.

Bit seeminly he haes some cronies
at could mebbe dö it. Bit it’ll cost me.

Na, na, I says, dir is anidder wye:
whit if we aa hae da rig in common –
den dir wid be plenty for ivverybody.

Why no gie dat a try?
